Sandy City Council #6
Sandy City Council #6
To my neighbors, friends, and fellow residents of Sandy,
It has been my privilege and honor to serve on the Sandy City Council. Four years ago, with my children grown and on their own, I made the decision to run for an open seat on the council. With limited political experience, but a desire to learn and serve, I jumped into local politics.
The experience has been amazing, educational, challenging, frustrating, rewarding, and satisfying. I am still inspired by the trust that you demonstrated in me in granting me this opportunity to serve. I have gained an appreciation for the remarkable capabilities of city staff who provide and support so much of what we appreciate and love about Sandy. I have a profound respect for my fellow councilors and the mayor. We may not agree on specific issues, but I have no doubt about their love of Sandy and the personal sacrifices that they have made to serve. I have learned much from each of them.
My decision to seek another term is motivated by the seriousness of the challenges the city is facing at this time: state and federal mandates to improve our water and wastewater infrastructure, and new development. I have driven council responsibility for establishing policies and funding to properly support our infrastructure. I have consistently advocated for right-sizing system development charges (costs charged to developers) to more accurately reflect the true cost of infrastructure for adding new developments.Â
The stability of Sandy's financial future is at stake. Failure to address the true cost of development and to identify more affordable infrastructure alternatives will undermine the city's ability to provide even basic services.
I encourage you to browse these pages to learn more about these and other issues we are facing, my first term report card, and some of the opportunities this next term holds for Sandy.
Respectfully yours,
-don
